Silk Temari Jewelry

All Miwa Temari items are handmade from start to finish. Embroidered with 100% Japanese silk, this jewellery is gentle on the skin, lightweight and offers a comfortable wearing experience. 

The temari base, or 土台まり[dodai-mari], is made of fine merino wool and layers of thin threads. The top layer of the temari base is wrapped in silk, reflecting a commitment to quality in even the finest details.

Silk Tassels

If the silk tassel threads become bent or tangled, either expose them to steam or soak in water, and reshape it with your fingers, then dry it in the shade.

Temari Jewelry Care Tips

• Handling with care is advised due to the delicate nature of embroidery. Avoid rubbing the threads.

• Store away from moisture and sunlight.

• Remove jewelry before showering, bathing or swimming. Remove jewelry before bedtime.

• Avoid contact with beauty products as sweat and sebum may stain the silk.

• If absolutely necessary, the outside of the temari can be quickly washed with water and natural laundry detergent. Avoid soaking in water. Do not rub the threads. Let it dry completely in the shade.

• Silk is a natural material and fading may occur over the years depending on conditions.

Hand-Pressed Gold Thread

Crafted through centuries of refined artistry in Kyoto, this exquisite thread represents the pinnacle of Japanese textile tradition. The thread is created by meticulously applying 24-karat gold leaf onto Washi paper with traditional lacquer, which is then cut into microscopic ribbons and precision-wrapped around a core of fine silk. 

Traditionally reserved for the ornate robes of the Imperial Court and sacred temple textiles, this gold thread possesses a deep, enduring luster and a supple strength that distinguishes it from modern metallic alternatives. By integrating this historical material into contemporary jewelry, each piece carries a legacy of Kyoto’s master craftsmanship and the timeless elegance of genuine gold.

• Do not rub the threads. Gold leaf may peel off due to strong friction, so please handle it gently.

• Avoid exposure to high temperatures.

Silver Thread

Pure silver thread is used in a variety of traditional Japanese textiles, from ceremonial sashes worn by sumo wrestlers to elegant theater curtains.

Through the use of advanced vacuum deposition technology, this thread has evolved into a high-quality material that is both practical and astonishingly fine. This technology also enables delicate coloring that highlights the brilliance of pure silver. It allows for a wide range of colors, from silver to gold and copper to a full palette of vivid hues. 

This thread harmonizes beautifully with the temari design, bringing out its refined elegance through the deep luster unique to genuine silver.

• Do not rub the threads. If damaged, silver may gradually tarnish due to natural oxidation. 

• Avoid exposure to high temperatures.

• To reduce natural silver oxidation over time and ensure long-lasting shine, it is advised to minimize exposure to sweat and water.

Earrings:

• Gold-filled (14KGF): hooks, posts, hoops. 

• Sterling silver (SV925): hooks, posts, hoops. Sterling silver may gradually tarnish due to natural oxidation. To restore the luster, use a special silver cleaning solution or a silver polishing cloth.

• Ideal for those seeking the brilliant look of silver with minimal upkeep. These nickel-free hooks provide a lasting, polished shine and a comfortable, worry-free wearing experience.

• Clip-on (non-hole): clips (nickel-free alloy), screw-back clips (alloy). 

• Allergy-free: posts (titan). 

Stones and beads:

Semi-precious stones and high quality crystal beads from Austria, similar to Swarovski, are used in Miwa Temari products.

Temari pendant bail: 

Silk embroidered pendants have either a rhodium-color or gold-plated alloy bail. Temari pendants embroidered with genuine gold thread are fitted with a 14KGF ring bail. SV925 and 14KGF fittings are available on request.

Kumihimo necklaces: 

Japanese Kumihimo cord necklaces are fitted with either a rhodium-color or gold-plated alloy end parts. Kumihimo cords are made in Kyoto. 100% silk and silk/poly blends are available.
