After moving from New York City to Tokyo nearly 20 years ago, I fell in love with the intricate geometry of temari and dedicated years to mastering this ancient folk art. My brand, Miwa Temari (美和手まり), was born from a desire to transform the untouchable beauty of decorative temari balls into something you can hold, wear, and cherish every day.
In my workshops, I teach the art of temari and share the meditative focus and appreciation for traditional Japanese geometric patterns. Whether you are a craft enthusiast or a curious traveler, I provide a professional, bilingual introduction to one of Japan’s most beautiful fiber art traditions.
My background is in professional design (MA in Product Design), and I spent my earlier career as a designer and art director in NYC. I hold the title of Master Instructor (Shihan), certified by the Japan Temari Association (日本てまりの会).
