Silk Temari Jewelry Workshop
Experience traditional Japanese temari embroidery and create a ready-to-wear silk necklace or bag charm.
Workshop duration: 2h
Location: Meguro Station, Tokyo. The studio is a short walk from Meguro Station (JR lines and subway) and wheelchair accessible. Directions will be provided after registration.
Workshop skill level: beginner to intermediate, depending on the pattern.

Requirements for participants:
Participants must be comfortable working with a needle.
Participants must be ready to work on a relatively small scale.
Experience making traditional "big" temari balls is a plus, but NOT required.
Previous hand embroidery experience is recommended for intermediate level workshops.
Guests ages 12+ can attend. (Exceptions can be made for families with young children on a case-by-case basis. A kid-friendly temari kit will be provided. Please contact us directly before booking.)
What to expect during the workshop:
Check out the samples and choose a temari base color and threads you like.
Learn how to work with silk threads.
Follow the demonstration and the step-by-step printed instructions.
While we are stitching, the instructor will talk about the history of Japanese temari and traditional patterns.
Assemble your finished temari as a necklace or bag charm. Other options, such as earrings or hair accessories, are available upon request.
At the end of the workshop you can try your hand at wrapping a small temari base yourself.
The instructor will answer your questions and point you toward additional resources if you are interested in continuing to study temari.
All materials are included in the price, and necessary tools are provided at the studio.
This is a small-group workshop with a maximum of 4 participants, which guarantees personal attention.
When booking directly (SimplyBook), no pre-payment is required. Payment is collected in-person at the studio at the end of your session (Cash, Credit Card, PayPal or Suica/IC accepted via Square POS).
Patterns
Asanoha, or hemp leaf, is a traditional Japanese geometric pattern. In this workshop, you will learn basic temari embroidery techniques and how to work with silk threads.

Yasashii Kiku is a delicate flower pattern with six petals. In this workshop, you will learn three temari stitching techniques and practice reading different temari patterns.

Hishi is a playful geometric pattern of interlocking diamonds that showcases the beautiful shine of silk threads. Create a cute temari in your favorite colors.

Yaegiku pattern is a traditional temari design featuring a stylized chrysanthemum (kiku) with overlapping petals. You will work with double-strand silk and learn the nuances of temari techniques specific to jewelry making.
